Training Methodology

Training Methodology

The aim of each course is to give the participant the relevant theoretical knowledge in an efficient, practical manner. Hence, knowledge transfer is combined with the real-life data examples and practical exercises on our training platform. Generally speaking, our teaching methodology consists of a 4-step approach for each subject in a course:

  • A theoretical introduction and explanation based on a PowerPoint slide show
  • A practical live demonstration
  • A hands-on session, in which trainees can apply what they have just learned, followed by a practical exercise
  • Correction of the exercise, answers to additional questions, and indications on where to find more information

By following the links you will find further descriptions of the services provided by the Odyssey Training Centre: the structure and content of each course (in course details), the plans recommended for each user profile (in training plans), the organisation and planning of the courses (in course schedule), and the registration process and form (in registration).

Though most of the courses provided in this catalogue are intended for project teams and can thus be followed as specified in the training programme, the training courses intended for the support team or end users may need to be adapted for each site. Our training specialists can develop training targeted to your needs, your functional approach and your users in collaboration with your project team and our consultants.

Training Skills

Our trainers are experienced consultants or analysts who have been recognised as specialists in their fields. They have all gone through a trainer assessment process that includes educational methodology, coaching and internal validation.

Locations, Infrastructure, and Teaching Aids

Odyssey has installed professional training infrastructures in Lausanne and Brussels. Each training room provides a suitable workspace for the trainee and is equipped with PC workstations (1 PC for 1-2 trainees), a training database, projector or video system, printer, flip chart, etc.

During the training sessions only professional material is used: computer-driven slide shows, step-by-step illustrated handbooks and reference guides. For exercises and simulations the trainee has access to the training database which contains prepared business cases.

Dedicated Training

Standard courses (inter-enterprise) are normally held at Odyssey premises. This ensures that participants are fully involved in the training without the usual unavoidable disturbances, and that a professionally prepared training infrastructure can be guaranteed. Some courses can be organised at the customer's premises (intra-enterprise). In this case, it is essential that the customer provide an adequate training infrastructure and the trainer will require extra time to prepare the environment on site.

Class Sizes and Times

Since our training courses are very practice-oriented, there is a limit of eight trainees per session. This limit may vary slightly depending on the course. Training times will be confirmed after registration and are normally from 09.00 - 12.30 and 14.00 - 17.30. Of course, allowance is made for trainees arriving from abroad. There are suitable breaks during the course and lunch is organised by Odyssey.

Language

The standard language used in our training courses is English. All the documentation and computer slides as well as the training system are also in English. Odyssey staff is multilingual. Courses can be given in a different language, if necessary.

Training Feedback Process

All course attendees are requested to complete a Training Feedback Form at the end of the course. This appraisal of the training is important as it indicates if the training course has fully met requirements. It is also a very important source of information for us for improving course structure, documentation, presentation and organisation.
